Hope you're all having a jolly Christmas/Yule/Saturday etc. In the true spirit of the ghost of Christmas to come giving a salutory warning against the perils of leadrot, I thought I'd post pics of a unit that came into my possession recently from the collection of the late and very wonderful Joe Dever.
The green Hobgoblins in action in one of Joe's battles about 1986.I've got replacement figures ready to be painted to match the survivors (which are done inks I think) so hopefully they will be able to take the field again at full strength which is about 50 figures.
Enjoy the rest of the day.
A Merry Christmas to you and yours , Cheers Tony
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony. Likewise.... something of a hectic year but made it thus far.
DeleteBest Xmas ever ;-) great figures.
ReplyDeleteYes , Joe's painting is fairly basic, but it rings my bell. Any thoughts on how these are done? Ink over a white undercoat? I daresay I'll use contrast paints to try and replicate the style.
DeleteGreat and sad to see. But Happy Christmas
ReplyDeleteYes, but once the replacement figures are painted and based the regiment will be up to strength again. I'm trying to think of Leadrot as natural attrition.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours sir. Thats a really disheartening sight, glad you are ready and able to keep the unit replenished.
ReplyDeleteYes when I picked the collection up I was horrified to see how much was affected, but I've got my head right it now. It only seems to affect Citadel and Asgard minis which leads me to believe Brian Ansell was cutting corners back in the day. I've never seen Minifigs or Hinchliffe with the plague.
DeleteVexing to see these fellows in such a state .
ReplyDeleteAt least half of the regiment are ok though and I'm looking forward to painting replacements.
