Here's a little force of gribbly aliens I knocked up to fight my youngest son's Space Marines...The Evil Brain Eaters. All Reaper Bones minis with some minor conversion. Unfortunately they have gone all tacky after varnishing.. presumably a reaction of the varnish with the soft plastic these figures are made of.
The hive masters
The soldiers
The drones
Good fun to paint. Wash of contrast paints over white undercoat and finished. The hives are old flower arranging items I've had in my bits box for decades.....
Scary critters, well done.
ReplyDeleteI wanted them to be completely alien and weird.
DeleteYeah, you can't use any spray with an oil base on the Bones. Try spraying them with Dullcote or something similar without an oil derivative in it. I've had some success removing the tackiness doing that.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'll see if I can get that... presumably available in the UK.
DeleteIt should be, but I've heard there's been alot of supply disruptions of it since the pandemic started. You should be able to use any spray varnish, just check the can to see if a varnish has oil or derivatives in it. They usually tell you.
DeleteIt's just their goopey nature.
ReplyDeleteTypically the one time I want Matt figures, they go glossy!
DeleteVery nice looking force, should give those space marines what for.
ReplyDeletewith luck, although they do have very impressive shoulder pads.
DeleteThat's true, and oversized back packs. And why do they go into battle dressed in team colours? Could never work that out.
DeleteCool force! How are you fielding them? What kind of statline, weapons etc do they have? Not that I know much about 40k...
ReplyDeleteneither do I!! I think we'll be using a very simple set of rules, probably out of my head.
