More of the goodies, the Prince of Dol Amroth, his knights and men at arms. All Essex Miniatures, which were around in 1984 and still hold up well against modern sculpts. They are always a pleasure to paint scrubbing up well in an old school style or contemporary grubby finish.
These 13th century men at arms remind me of some of Gary Chalk's illustrations.
I used the figure recommended by Joe Dever in the article for The Prince of Dol Amroth with his swan crest. The banner is cut up tomato puree tube.
Another Essex figure representing the knights.
Terrific work you have envisaged them so well. Btw when will we see some figures in action?
ReplyDeleteI really don't have time to game although I'd love to have a session with something simple like Book of War.
DeleteI am unfamiliar with these rules can you tell me more?
DeleteThey are mass combat rules designed to simulate D&D combat. JC has done a nice review here

They look like a well painted group of figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil. I really like the look of shiny soldiers although at the moment I'm getting an urge to do some grimdark figures.
DeleteLovely miniatures, I get what you mean about looking like Gary Chalk illustrations.
ReplyDeleteHis worlds seem to be set in the late 13th century as regards to armour.
DeleteSteady hand there with that heraldry !
ReplyDeleteI can just about manage swans.
DeleteI have really started to appreciate the Essex figures more in recent years. Wish I had paid more attention to them before.
ReplyDeleteThey paint up nicely and are often found cheap on eBay.
DeleteWonderful painting on some lovely old school miniatures. The free-hand on the shields and banner are especially good.
ReplyDeleteMy hand isn't as steady as it was, but I worry less about it nowadays.
DeleteThey look grand, good sturdy Essex Minis with a cracking paint job.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul... enjoyed painting them.
DeleteGreat looking mini's. Inspired me to find my copy of White Dwarf out of the loft. Now I need to go and find the one with Thistlewwood scenario in!
ReplyDeleteThat's issue 45. Probably my favourite White Dwarf.
DeleteOutstanding! I am reading the White Dwarf Article now and I'm enjoying enjoying your approach to it!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I remember when the article was announced in the previous issue I was really excited but when it arrived I was a tad disappointed. I was probably hoping for more pictures of figures and a laid out battlefield. The picture of Aragorn's arrival at the Harlond did look a bit cobbled together. Of course now I love it, and wish o could find Joe's model of Grond to buy.
DeleteThis is becoming one of my favourite websites. I'm looking forward to some dragons.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shaun. Strangely, I'm not a huge fan of dragons. I've got some nice Minifigs ones, and The Citadel Fiend Factory chap however. I'd I do my really old school Middle Earth armies one day ( Minifigs and Heritage) that will give me the excuse to paint them.
