I thought I'd better post some finished good guys, as I have been making progress with the defenders of Minas Tirith. Here we have the Men of Pinnath Gelin, described as "300 gallant green clad men". I've drawn heavily on the Hinchliffe Robin Hood range ( now available again from Lancashire Games). They fit the right time frame for the battle article, and are larger and chunkier than other Hinchliffe historicals. I trimmed off the bows and quivers and added some Essex shields.
Great looking warriors - I especially like the freehand shields
ReplyDeleteThanks. Nice simple design... I'm hopeless at animals though.
DeleteThese have turned out splendidly! I look forward to seeing more and them in a game. I do like the almost throw away lines in Tolkien which allude to something that then gets my imagination flowing in loads of directions at once. A bad sleeper , I have Rob Inglis Lotr on almost nightly currently.
ReplyDeleteHe's conveniently vague a lot of the time.
DeleteThey look great! I really like the impressionistic green bases - they 'read' really well. They remind me of a lot of early Blanche and Morrison bases, which is a Very Good Thing!
ReplyDeleteBack in the day I did my bases like this, copying Joe Dever's figures in Tabletop Heroes. They do make the figures stand out well. Although I'm happy to do more modern bases, I really don't like tufts of flock and flowers all over them. Painted flock and sisal string works well.
DeleteVery nice! What kind of scale would you put the Hinchcliffe Robin Hood miniatures at? I'm guessing they're 'true' 25mm?
ReplyDeleteActually, I'd almost put them at 28mm plus. They are much bigger than Hinchliffe historicals, and tower over 25mm Minifigs. They fit in fine with late 80s Citadel.
Deleteooo that's very helpful to know. I've been thinking about getting a set for some retro-gaming, knowing that they might have crossover use alongside other figures might be the thing that tips me over into getting them
DeleteI'll do a pic showing comparison in a day or 2 if you can hold on.
DeleteThat would be cool if possible! To be fair, I'm trying to paint more minis than I acquire this year and this kind of impulse purchase might sink that.
DeleteA noble pledge. I don't have many vices nowadays, but I am addicted to figure buying.
