Some time ago I acquired a large lot of old Citadel figures, some of which had the dreaded leadrot. The seller wasn't a mini collector and I got them at s good price so I didn't make a fuss. They languished a few months on my desk looking folorn until this morning when they were sent to a spa bath of Mineral oil and pure Turpentine. Here they are recuperating before being undercoated. The mix of oil and turps had a very distinctive smell which instantly reminded me of going brass rubbing as a child.
Nice figures, I look forward to seeing them painted.

Paul.
That could be a while!
DeleteWhat happens to figures with lead rot? Brittleness?
ReplyDeleteEventually they just crumble to dust...
DeleteNever done 'brass rubbing ' sounds interesting - but probably frowned on nowadays
ReplyDeleteI remember it being fun, and gave me the opportunity to examine loads of armour.
DeleteThat dwarf figure is the first White Dwarf figure (Grombrindle I think). I use to have the figure back in the 1980's. Good find.
ReplyDeletePS: Love the Tull and other prog references.
Yes, this particular one has got s head variant which I was excited by... I've got the other one. I'm a bit of a Tull fan!
DeleteI remember these and all the differing head and weapon swaps the Perrys did. His '`good' version was Hest the Paladin and the figures above made great D+D bad guys.
ReplyDeleteYes, there was one with a flaming cross on his shield I remember.
DeleteSo that is the cure!
ReplyDeleteHopefully. Other alchemists have different remedies.
DeleteOne of my first ever minis bought in the GW store in Birmingham. `Skull Face' was my favourite versions of the sculpt. Red cloak, bone face, black armour and smothered in gloss varnish for protection.
ReplyDeleteI Love these figures. Some of my first purchases. All the different head and weapon variants it's a pity my painting let them down.
ReplyDeleteHooray to the gloss varnish!
DeleteGosh, now there is a memory, I think I still have one lurking in my collection of old citadel miniatures....looking forward to seeing you get some paint on them
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt

Hi Matt... I'd like to think that would be sooner rather than later!
DeleteHi there! Had a query re a joe dever scenario from games day 83 and I wondered if you could help?
ReplyDeleteSaw an ad for it an old WD, described merely as "Prince Tristram sacrificed at the altar of foul Lord Srularum" . Do you happen to have any more info about the nature of the scenario?
Thanks!
( the link is for the oldhamner fb page where I posted the query)

Hi Aidan.... That sounds interesting and I would be VERY interested to know if you found out any more. I'm not in that Oldhammer group... some of he members are a bit rude and aggressive for my liking, but please do let me know what you found out.
DeleteSome absolute classics there.
ReplyDeleteI'm remembering my o-levels all of a sudden :(
I freely admit o flunked most of mine because I was planning out dungeons. The only one I passed was English Lit. With an A, and I didn't read any of the books. It was then I realised what s completely crap education system we have.
