EARLIEST PICTURE OF A FANTASY BATTLE?

I came across this wonderful picture on Playing at the World blog showing a fantasy battle put on in 1970 at a Miniature Figures Collectors of America convention. The fort (Minas Tirith in the game) is a converted Airfix Roman fort and I can make out Airfix Robin Hood figures there as well. Isn't it splendid?

  1. Fantastic picture. I remember using the hooded Robin Hood Archers as Elves back in the mid-70s - they were green after all!

    1. Yes, in a way it was more fun when you really had to use your imagination to convert figures, or just use them as stand ins for fantasy folk...

    2. Looks like 2 forts spliced together. I always imagined Minas Tirith as Italo-Norman, so Roman works well.
