A study in practical nostalgia, travelling back to the early 1980's with a fistful of cash, to buy all the stuff I couldn't afford on a paperboys salary.

EARLIEST PICTURE OF A FANTASY BATTLE?
I came across this wonderful picture on Playing at the World blog showing a fantasy battle put on in 1970 at a Miniature Figures Collectors of America convention. The fort (Minas Tirith in the game) is a converted Airfix Roman fort and I can make out Airfix Robin Hood figures there as well. Isn't it splendid?

Fantastic picture. I remember using the hooded Robin Hood Archers as Elves back in the mid-70s - they were green after all!
ReplyDeleteYes, in a way it was more fun when you really had to use your imagination to convert figures, or just use them as stand ins for fantasy folk...
DeleteSplendid indeed,what a find!
ReplyDeleteClever use of the Roman mile castle

DeleteLooks like 2 forts spliced together. I always imagined Minas Tirith as Italo-Norman, so Roman works well.
DeleteWonderful. Thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteI was delighted to find it. Good times.
