A NEW VENTURE - BROADSWORD MINIATURES (Hinchliffe Fantasy Range)

Recently I had the opportunity to purchase the rights and existing moulds to a classic old school fantasy range, The Hinchliffe FA range designed in 1979 by Peter Gilder, a demi-god of wargaming in the 70's and 80's. Needless to say I jumped at the chance to get this fun and quirky range back into production and the existing moulds and master figures duly arrived at Broadsword Towers.

Currently about a third of the 100 figure range have usable moulds and I plan to get these into production as soon as possible. The remaining codes in the range should fit onto 3 more moulds which will be produced when funds allow.

Some of the weird and wonderful old school characters which will
be re-released in the future.
For a look at the full range check Lost minis Wiki

I have teamed up with the excellent Geoff Solomon-Sims of Oakbound Studio and we have clubbed together to buy a spin casting machine which we are collecting in a week or so. After that I should be taking orders for the first re-releases. Initially orders will be through the blog here (I'll post contact details at the appropriate time), but will hopefully soon be on the Oakbound site.

There is a new page on this blog to showcase the figures (visible on the web version only for some reason),so do check that via the tab at the top of the page. In the future it will be regularly updated with pictures of the Hinchliffe fantasy range and, hopefully soon, bespoke Broadsword Miniatures.

I'm really excited to be getting this classic range back into production and maybe contributing a bit to this great hobby of ours.

    1. Thanks Alan. That's the idea:) it's a good range for either making up regiments of for role playing and skirmishes. I'll try and keep the prices as low as possible. Each casting needs to be weighed and metal cost calculated, plus other factors such as PayPal fees ( not insignificant). At least we won't be paying for casting.

  6. What a great idea, you never need be without minis again!. Seriously though this sounds like a great endeavour, I may well be tempted to get some myself.

  7. The first lot should be available soon. Start saving! The ogres in the range would make excellent 10mm giants.

  8. Wow - exciting news! Congrats on the acquisition - I look forward to supporting your venture with my cash! A lot of those spear armed minis look great for building lovely monopose units - definitely got my eyes on the Cohort of the Grave if they're in the usable mould bracket? Love some of the names too - I now need an army of the Men of Yonderley just because I love their name XD

    1. Yup, the Cohort of the grave should be available soon, and would make a great monopose unit, with a fancy standard bearer and leader. The word Yonderley tickled me..... perhaps it means somewhere over the hills and not in the Shire? Either way they are some of my favourites. They'll be in phase 2 of releases.

    2. Yonderly is a wonderful title. I feel these figures names are almost as much fun as the Mythical Earth ones.

  9. Excellent idea, congratulations!
Wouldn't include the martian stuff as well would it?
If we could only get the Garrison Hyborian range on the market again!

    1. I may well be able to release a couple of the Martian figures if the moulds are still serviceable. The rest are missing and the masters are badly damaged. Eventually I'd like to get them back, so never say never. As for the latter.... totally agree. I would jump at the chance of getting those back on the market.

    2. I collected the Martian range in my youth. It would be great to see them back. Greatly underrated at the time I think.

    3. I could never get into the John Carter stories, but I should give them another go.

    5. Thanks Rick. I'll make a song and dance when they are ready, here and on FB. The more I look at the JC range, the more I like it, so I if I can get original figures, I may be able to go ahead. Typically I bought a collection of these a couple of years ago to sell on, which I did, but now regret it.

    1. An eclectic range. I get the impression Frank Hinchliffe said to Peter Gilder " we need to make an effort to get in on this new fantasy lark" after they stopped producing Heritage fantasy figures in the UK. Many of the Hinchliffe fantasy range are similar to Heritage in pose and equipment.

    1. Thanks Phil. I'm hoping there are enough either old timers or old lead collectors out there to make it worthwhile.

  12. Excellent stuff! You've very likely got a likely customer in me - although measurements of the figures would probably be very useful to me before making an order

    1. Very good point. As things move along I'll post Comparison pictures. Compared to other figures of the time, these are actually quite large so would fit in with Citadel slottas comfortably. The exception being the hobbits and elves. The hobbits go well with the RAL Partha CS series,, but the elves are more like 20mm figures. They would work well as young elves or woodland sprites. Any figure you suggest as a measurement guide?

  15. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this!
Mind you, when you get started it'll cost a small fortune for me to have you send them to the UK!
