VILE RUNE ORCS

Rebased and glossed, there are 50 of these orcy bods for Lord Vassago's army. More candidates for Erny's Orctober (as soon as I read there might be a prize I frantically started hauling all the orcs and goblins out I could lay my hands on). As I mentioned when I had finished painting them a couple of years ago, I always thought blue was a good colour for these Ral Partha sculpts (some of which are still available from RP Europe.). The vile rune on their shields is from Runequest, a game I never played, but had some of the boxed Citadel sets back in the 80's.

The standards sport the traditional Red Eye and White Hand devices that many 70's orcs used.
I've got a couple of the orc war machines Ral Partha made to go with these figures, so must get them assembled and painted  (maybe for Orctober 2016)

Here is Ugrash -Ka, the Hill Giant leader of the Vile Rune orcs. One of my favourite figures from Asgard, sculpted by Nick Bibby. I completely ballsed up the paintjob, but to be honest I don't think I would have ever done justice to the figure.

  1. Mean looking fellows and blue certainly works well with them.Definitely as vile as their rune.
I too never played Runequest wayback when but had the broo boxed set. I have become interested in the whole runequest universe and find it fascinating and vey rich.

    1. Runequest never really floated my boat...I think it was the duck adventurers which just seemed a bit too silly.

  2. Ugrash -Ka looks fine to me old chap. Also, a lot of the old RP sculpts are now being made available through Iron Wind Metal in the US: http://www.ralpartha.com/index.php

    1. Mr Bibby was/is one of my favourite sculptors. I think he works on a larger scale in bronze now. I'm feeling better about the paintjob thanks!

    2. Yeah, he does. He did a big arse bear in bronze a few years ago, standing on it's hind legs. It was the size of a small building! And it looked fantastic too :)

If you use some Google-fu you can find his sculpting work.

      Cheers

  5. Yes, Springinsfeld, Ugrash-Ka rocks the way you have painted him, suits him very nicely. But seeing all those beautiful Orcs in beautiful blue all ranked up and ready to go really sets my blood on fire!!! They look amazing! Especially in the formation you have put them in, Springinsfeld! I just want to see a bunch of dwarf beserkers fall upon their shieldwall! Plus I just can't help but hear Jon Lord's organ as a background soundtrack to them!

    1. Thanks Private W. I have got a wodge of those tiny RP dwarves to do up as well, with a steam cannon or 2 which might make short work of the shield wall...... when this occurs I stick on some Deep Purple to battle to.

  7. Blue is a good color on these guys! I like the addition of the Asgard figure. I've been checking them out myself and thought they should fit in with Ral nicely.

  8. Everything looks great to me. I always wondered what the Vile Rune looked like. Isn't that one of the names given in AD&D? I haven't kept up with your blog. I'm glad Orctober brought it back to my attention.
