LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE 2 and WIP

Managed to complete the second lockdown challenge set by Geoff. To paint the figure that you've had longest in your lead pile. Well I bought this Ral Partha dwarf in 1979 and was given a duplicate at the same time. The first chap sported a fine coating of Humbrol gloss enamels, and was my first D&D character, a dwarf called Gent. I'm not sure what happened to that version, but his twin had languished in the lowest strata of the lead mountain for 41 years, so it's high time he was painted.
The colour scheme ties in with some other dwarfs I've painted which I'll show soon.

Next shot is progress so far on my Travellers on the Endless Wastes from the last post. About halfway through these lovely Aly Morrison sculpts.

  1. Like the dwarf and the other fellows you are half way through are coming along splendidly. I look forward to hearing more of this enigmatic and fascinating project.

    1. Thanks Alan... More coming soon hopefully. Lines from Tull songs keep popping into my head which could be utilised.

  2. Lovely work on the Travellers!

The colour scheme is really effective and I love the metallics! Looking forward to seeing how they progress!

    1. Thanks SCS. Just been looking at your Leviathan blog... Beautiful figures I've seen on Scotia Grendel page but never knew were connected with a game. The metallic green was GW iron breaker with a wash of contrast Terradon turquoise over the top.

    1. Many thanks JC, praise indeed. I want to have a bash at contrast paints over drybrushing to see if I can get a decent result.

  5. Very cool! The shield design is perfect. And excited about the Travellers on the Endless Wastes WIP.

How are you getting these Lockdown challenges, by the way? Carrier pigeon?

    1. Cheers. My " good" guys usually use a sun or moon emblem, connected in my fevered imagination to the King Crimson song Moonchild. My bad guy is The Crimson King, who uses his own face as a badge... from the album cover of In the Court of the Crimson King.... Well, we are all a bit odd playing with little lead men.
Check Geoff's blog Fimm McCools blogspot. He is doing a weekly vlog , posting it there, on Instagram and YouTube.

    2. That's crazy, I was sure I had Geoff's blog on the list of blogs I follow on my blog. (That's a lot of blogs in one sentence.) But I don't, so for some reason I've been missing lots of cool stuff. Oh well, rectified now.

    3. Cool. I find blogs so much easier to navigate than the endless stream of facebook.

  6. Lovely work on the dwarf and a nice idea for a challenge! Those travellers are looking very promising - very ornate and Muscovite/Ottoman in style. Can't wait to see them finished! I wonder if Elwing's Elf cavalry would fit in as well?

    1. Cheers.... I'm getting into this eastern stuff recently and casting about for other figures. I like the idea of a Hungarian or Wallachian army, so Old Glory will be the place to go. I'll check out the cavalry you mention, although I have already bought some TAG Russians which are almost perfect matches.

    2. Just had a look and I already have one of the Elfwing chaps...the leader with the sword raised. I had a horse for years and then spotted the rider on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I shudder to think how much the complete set goes for nowadays.

    3. Yeah a pretty penny I would imagine! I'm going to enjoy watching this army grow!

  7. Wow, that Dwarf is well painted! I have a similar one, but it was painted over 40 years ago by a 12 or 13 year old with humbrol enamel paints. Me. Looking forward to see those Travellers when finished!

  8. Thanks Wim, it's a while since I concentrated on just one figure at a time and I enjoyed it. My fist version painted when I was about11 had Humbrol silver mail and axe, gloss been boots and tunic and gloss blue shield.... happy days.

  9. I love those Elves and makes me question why I never bought any in the day. Was always bloody dwarves or Broo!

  10. Yes, they are lovely sculpts. Back in 1984 I didn't really like them and was more into Chaos warriors.
