A unit for my Prehammer collection. Fiend Factory zombies led by an Asgard Wight. Tried out contrast paints properly for the first time . Straight from the pot over a white undercoat, so worked quite well I feel. I'd been treating them as a wash which isn't the right thing to do. They certainly made quick work of these. I want to have a go at applying them over black undercoat, dry brushed grey or white.
I've had mixed results with the contrast paints - they either seem to work very well or not at all .
ReplyDeleteThey take a bit of getting used to they are so different.
DeleteThey look great!
ReplyDeleteI saw a video by an ex-GW painter who described contrast paints as essentially the basecoat and shading in one. I think that's about right - and if they're thinned a bit over white, you can get the highlights too.
For a grim and gritty effect, I find they work really well over the black/grey/white layers, because the pigments are just so strong. I was very pleased with the leeches in this post; a year on, I still really like how they look on the table:

Yes, I was impressed by your trials. I have a heap of Nick Lund figures which I think would respond well to this treatment.
DeleteVery nice,the Wight is great
ReplyDeleteNice old Asgard chap.
DeleteI like the wight as well. Don't forget to post on the lost souls that is the Asgard Miniatures Collectors group on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteWill do!
DeleteNice work Sir - I've not tried these contrast paints but they certainly work for you.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite expensive to take a punt with, but I'm glad I did.
DeleteGreat scary result. Ahead of the game for Halloween I think.
ReplyDeleteSadly I expect the GROGG annual Halloween game will be cancelled this year.
DeleteI love them! A very scary regiment!
ReplyDeleteThe base figure was a bit uninspiring, but they were fun to paint and perked up when finished.
