A study in practical nostalgia, travelling back to the early 1980's with a fistful of cash, to buy all the stuff I couldn't afford on a paperboys salary.

GRIMOIRES OF YORE #1
A good day was had yesterday when an old gaming friend Von Trinkenessen popped into my workplace bearing a set of vintage (1981) rules for me.
Reaper, in mint condition including the quick reference sheet!! I am so looking forward to trying them out with my Prehammer Pre-slotta figures.
Oh yeah!!! What a nice present and what a fantastic friend!! REAPER rocks and seeing a game of it with your wonderful pre-slottas will be excitedly awaited. And Springinsfeld, nice to see the CAMEL listed as music listening. Do you like any of the German prog/freak bands of the late 60's/early 70's? They are also great for painting figures to as well as crazy soundtracks to gaming adventures...ie REAPER blasts..
Hi Springinsfeld, the bands I was thinking of were CAN, Amon Duul II, Faust, Cosmic Jokers, etc., but this is just really the tip of the iceberg of great German freak madness! They are not necessarily Prog in the same manner of CAMEL, or Caravan or King Crimson, etc but they are (in my mind) all fantastic bands that had put out some really incredible music that involve the same type of listening skills/enjoyment that Prog inspires/demands. Some possible entry points might be Amon Duul II's Carnival in Babylon, Can's Future Days, Faust's Faust Tapes, The first Cosmic Jokers album or the manic world that is the masterpiece by Walter Wegmuller, Tarot. Anyway, this is just of the top of my head and several of the above albums are among some of my all-time favs. You might find them a lot rawer and weirder than the English stuff but given the right initial listen they could possibly blow your mind and lead you happily down a whole new path of musical adventure and joy. Enjoy. (Oh, and some of the album covers and gatefolds easily rival Roger Dean's best work!)
A great gift,I await the battle report with interest...
ReplyDeleteLots of tables! I'll be interested to see how you fare, as I found 'Laserburn' to be a right pain the posterior ;largely due to the chaotic layout.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. it looks a bit complicated, but I shall persevere. I used to use Spacefarers for sci-fi games which were good.
DeleteAaarrrhhhhhh!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been after this ruleset going on twenty years now, and I've seen two copies on blogs within a couple months of each other :(
It's not fair!!!!
Seriously though, great gift from your pal, looking forward to reading your battle report.
Cheers.
Lucky me. Actually I have seen them go on ebay for between £2 and £10 so not too expensive, so keep your eyes peeled.

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to trying them out. Not heard any German prog from that period....can you name a few bands?

DeleteThanks for the names..... I shall give them a whirl. Like the idea of covers rivalling Roger Dean's work. They must be good.
DeleteWelcome to the Reaper Owners Club!
ReplyDeleteThanks Zhu. I just need an opponent. Perhaps we ought to start a Prehammer movement using Reaper and pre slotta figures.
ReplyDeleteManaged to pick this up for £6 recently. Anyone fancy a go at it at BOYL15?
ReplyDeletespringinsfeld - I need to contact you about Fiend Factory figures, do you have an email I can contact?
